| |
|
 |
Welcome to the first edition of “Song of the Week”. Each week, there will be a new song posted for your listening enjoyment. Check back every Sunday!
Why not start off with a track by one of my all-time favorite bands? |
| |
|
|
Minus the Bear “Thanks For the Killer Game of Crisco Twister” [MP3] (4.93 MB)
from the 2002 record "Highly Refined Pirates"
 |
| |
|
| The first time I heard this band was when they opened for Cursive back on March 22, 2003. I honestly wasn’t paying too much attention at the time, but then later a friend of mine sent me this track and I automatically fell in love with it. It’s my all-time favorite track by them, and I love every one of their albums/LPs. Enjoy! |

Song Lyrics for “Thanks For the Killer Game of Crisco Twister”
And then we all bought yachts
and race up to the islands
Moored them at the docks
leading up to our cabins
We raced up just to slow down,
we drank some, yeah we always do
sunglasses to the water
Our girls are looking so good
Our girls are looking so good
Hey, please pass that dish,
and refill my glass,
and take off the sunglasses,
The sunset-
take in the twilight.
Our girls are looking so good
Our girls are looking so good
And it was getting cold,
The bay's got stories
that we don't know
and we'll be one of them
and we'll be one of them

| Back when Jackass was still on MTV, I was telling my co-worker Eric how I liked Bam Margera, so he introduced me to these videos called CKY. I bought them and automatically loved it. CKY (the band) was always playing in the background and I, again, loved it. I then found out that the drummer is Bam’s brother Jess. They’ve been together since 1994, and changed their name to CKY (short for Camp Kill Yourself) in 1996. They’ve had their fair share of bass players, none of which are ever on any of their albums (Chad, the guitarist, does bass on all their records, and also produces and mixes each record as well.) I’ve seen this band twice in Michigan and three times in Philadelphia. They’re my ALL-TIME favorite, and each time I listen to any of their older albums, it brings me a nostalgic feeling. They have their own very unique sound, and you won’t be able to get them out of your head. |

Song Lyrics for “Shippensburg”
You know what makes me happy
The things that make you sad
The feel that I controls absorbed by the radio jag
I found my indecision
The product of the media grime
The feel that I control have you press rewind
And now I'm on the wings
Hoping that you'll hear
Don't bother to respond
You love to hear me again
And when the sun beams down all of your lies
Close, close, yeah close the light
The sky's all gray in the barracks I know I'm a lousy hero
The classic act of feeling is that of a memory
And you are peering down through parascopic eyes
Close, close, yeah close (conscience)
I try to hide the fact that I'm afraid
We'll drive the band to Shippensburg and hope that we get played
And in the end of a season the voices turn it all off
The things that were so meaningless 'til the next one comes along
I try to hide the fact that I'm afraid
We'll drive the band to Shippensburg and hope that we get played

Website Everyone Needs to Check Out: I’m a huge fan of Dave Navarro, and I came across this website that is basically his own radio show that you can stream off the Internet. He plays almost anything, from unsigned bands, punk, comedy, metal, and lots of talk, which also includes spur of the moment call-ins. Be sure to check it out here: www.spreadradiolive.com.
